CIRCULATION POLICIES

*Please note: due to the ongoing COVID health crisis, some borrowing restrictions may apply and no books will be permitted to transfer between the middle school and high school at this time

Print Books
  • All students with accounts in good standing are allowed to borrow items from the media center
  • Students may borrow up to four items at a time for up to four weeks each
  • Students may renew an item as long as another student is not waiting for that item
  • Certain items (i.e. new books that have long waiting lists) may have limited circulation (usually two weeks with no renewals). This is to accommodate the needs of all students
Renewing Items
  • Items need to be renewed on or before their due dates
  • Students may renew books in person with me or online by logging into the Destiny catalog
  • A student's Destiny login is the same as the student's school computer ID and password
  • Once logged in to Destiny, students should click on "My Info" and then click the renew button for any items
  • If an error occurs, either someone is on hold for the item or the item (or others) are late. Students should see me if this occurs
Returning Items/Late Items
  • Books should be placed in the drop box located in the media center
  • If the media center is closed, students should come back at another time to return books
  • Books are due Tuesday-Thursday (usually not on Mondays, Fridays, or the day after a school break)
  • I will send one late notice (yellow paper) when books are late (through homeroom/first period teacher)
  • After around a week late, I will attempt to contact a parent/guardian by email
  • If a student is absent from school on the day his/her items are due, the student should return the items upon returning to school. Students items' will not be considered late during an absence.
Lost/Damaged Books
  • Lost books should be reported to me immediately
  • I will usually allow another circulation period for the student to continue looking for any lost materials
  • If after a set period of time, the book cannot be found, the student will be responsible for replacing the book or paying for a replacement copy (parents/guardians will be notified)
  • If a book is returned in severely damaged condition (no longer fit for circulation), the student will also be responsible for replacing the book or paying for a replacement copy
  • When a student borrows a book, it is that student's responsibility to return the item on time and in good condition. If the book is lent to a friend/sibling, left in a classroom, etc., the student who borrowed the book is ultimately the one responsible for the book
Requesting Books from the High School*
  • Students may borrow books from the HS by placing these items on hold through Destiny. A high school book is noted by its "Ask" label in Destiny
  • Mrs. Humes will send the requested item over, and Mrs. Newman will alert the requester when the book is available for pick up (usually takes 2-3 school days)
  • The same policies for borrowing MS books apply when borrowing HS books
  • I also reserve the right to deny any requests from the HS based on students' borrowing histories, and or content of the requested items.
