In order to write your essay on comparing reading A Raisin in the Sun to viewing it, you will need the following information. Remember your guiding question: How is reading a play different from viewing one?

Citing the Print Version a A Raisin in the Sun​
  1. Login to Noodletools on the right side by clicking Sign in with Google
  2. If you have not done so, create a new project: name it, MLA style, ADVANCED level (you will need this level for a later source you cite)
  3. Change the tab to sources and click on +Create a new citation

  6. Click to select the result (it will turn a different color) and choose Import Selected Source at the bottom of that box
  7. Check the info on the next screen and click Continue

Citing the Stage Production
  1. Login to Noodletools on the right side by entering your school email and clicking Sign in with Google
  2. If you have not done so, create a new project: name it, MLA style, ADVANCED level

Citing the Audio Recording
  1. Login to Noodletools on the right side by entering your school email and clicking Sign in with Google
  2. If you have not done so, create a new project: name it, MLA style, ADVANCED level
  3. Change the tab to sources and click on +Create a new citation
  4. Then choose File, App, eBook > Sound Recording
  5. Then, fill in the appropriate info (see green items below) and click Save.

​In-Text Citations
Although you will be referencing two pieces pieces originally written by Lorraine Hansberry and called the same thing, A Raisin in the Sun, your in-text citations will be different because of the different directors of the stage production and the audio recording.
​Use the following:
  1. For referencing the live performance version:  (Johnson time stamp)
  2. For referencing the audio version: (Bellamy time)
  3. For referencing the print/digital version of the actual written play: (Hansberry ​page#)

Note: where it says time stamp/pg number in green, you will need to fill in the approximate time in the video/audio you are referencing in your essay.



Exporting Your Citations From Noodletools
  1. Ensure you have cited ALL sources you plan on citing and that they are cited properly.
  2. Choose Print/Export and then Print/Export to Google Docs
  3. Your work cited document should open automatically (named "Sources for...") DO NOT adjust anything. The formatting is correct.
Getting your exported Works Cited Page onto the last page of your essay in Docs
  1. Copy everything on your exported works cited page (including the title: Works Cited)
  2. Go the end of your essay in Docs and get a clean, blank page (hit Enter if you need to get a new page)
  3. Paste in your exported works cited into this blank, last page of your essay. ​
  4. Make sure that if you make adjustments to your essay, you fix the spacing on your works cited (it should start at the top of its own page, not in the middle)
